Department of Nephrology at Ramkrishna CARE Hospitals offers comprehensive nephrology services under one roof. It is known across India for its expertise in the treatment of the most complex kidney related diseases. The institute is a pioneer in renal transplantation in both live and cadaveric donor programs. The institute has some of the leading nephrologists in India, who work closely with physical and occupational therapists to develop a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan, keeping in mind the patient’s diagnosis, lifestyle and professional requirements.
Patients with kidney disease need quality care, guidance and hope. As leaders in kidney disease management, we provide a full spectrum of services and take pride in our teamwork to achieve the best possible outcomes in a range of disorders from congenital to acquired and degenerative. Our nephrologists (kidney doctors) direct all aspects of treatment, including early intervention, transplant support and dialysis services, like peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and clinical research.
Our nephrologists are committed to providing effective solutions to patients and are highly experienced in managing extreme disease conditions. Our physicians work in sync with multispecialty teams for alleviating the pain and suffering of patients.
Services & Procedures
Ramkrishna CARE Hospitals offers cutting-edge dialysis services, with the latest technical advances combined with a caring, patient-centric approach.
Hemodialysis uses a special filter called a dialyzer as an artificial kidney to clean the blood of waste products and remove the extra fluid that accumulates. The dialysis machine pumps blood through the dialyzer. The cleaned blood flows out of the dialyzer and back into the bloodstream.
Most people undergo three dialysis sessions each week, for four to five hours each time using their dialysis access. During dialysis, a person also receives medication to replace the hormones that the kidneys are unable to produce.
Peritoneal dialysis utilizes the peritoneal membrane — the lining of the abdominal cavity. The peritoneal membrane is very large and has a rich blood supply. Peritoneal dialysis uses a solution called dialysate that drains into the belly spaces around the intestines and other organs. A small tube (catheter), placed through a minor surgical procedure, and carries the dialysate in and out of the belly.
The dialysate remains for two to six hours and the wastes, extra fluid and excess chemicals pass from the blood vessels in the peritoneal membrane into the dialysate fluid. Then the dialysate fluid is drained from the belly via the catheter. Once the fluid is drained, new fluid is placed to begin the process anew. Peritoneal dialysis can be performed during the day (CAPD) or with a cycling machine overnight while the patient sleeps.
The team that performs peritoneal dialysis in Raipur helps patients to become comfortable during the dialysis procedure. The team is available 24 hours to assist patients.
Managing Critical Care Nephrology
Ramkrishna CARE Hospitals tertiary care facilities enable doctors to treat all kinds of kidney diseases under intensive care, deploying advanced techniques backed by superior expertise. The critical care nephrology facilities include:
- Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)
- Sustained low efficiency dialysis
- Slow continuous ultra filtration
- Plasma exchange (Plasmapheresis)
- Extracorporeal removal of toxins & poisons (Haemoperfusions)
The institute has perfected and refined several laparoscopic techniques that offer patients improved outcomes. These techniques are now routinely used for many kidney disorders and also for removing and transplanting kidneys in live-donor transplants.
Kidney transplant is the best option for patients with end-stage kidney disease. We have a smooth live related and cadaver organ donation program with enviable outcomes. Our graft survival rates are comparable with the best centers in the Middile india. Ramkrishna CARE Hospitalshas a Centre of Clinical Excellence for transplants which includes kidney, . The kidney transplantation program at Ramkrishna CARE Hospitalsis a state-of-the-art program utilizing the newest and safest immunosuppressive agents. The institute focuses on both live and cadaver organ transplantation. Our kidney transplant nephrologists work closely with transplant surgeons and urologists to ensure high clinical outcomes.
Percutaneous Renal Biopsies
At Ramkrishna CARE Hospitals percutaneous renal biopsy is an integral part of the clinical practice at the Kidney Institute. It is essential in the diagnosis of glomerular, vascular and tubulointerstitial diseases of the kidney, providing information that is invaluable in prognosis and patient management. The use of real-time ultrasound and automated biopsy needles has simplified and improved the success and safety of this procedure. The Kidney Institute continuously trains young nephrologists in the proper technique of performing renal biopsy procedures.
After giving a general anesthetic, the doctor makes an incision in the skin and surgically removes a piece of the kidney. Depending on the lab findings, further surgery may be performed.
The nephrology team has significant experience in performing all kinds of procedures like:
- Acute kidney disease
- Diabetic kidney disease
- Collagen vascular disease
- Chronic kidney disease
- All types of glomerular diseases — acute glomerulonephritis, Nephrotic Syndrome etc.
- Immunological kidney diseases
- Polycystic kidney disease
- Congenital kidney disorders
- Obstructive nephropathy
- Renal stone diseases
- Acute & chronic renal failure
- Living donor kidney transplants (from both related and unrelated donors)
- Dialysis access procedures (jugular and femoral catheterization)
